The SUNY Oswego School of Education takes pride in offering all students specialized experiences, continuous support, and opportunities to advance their academic and professional futures. Candidates enrolled in our teacher preparation programs will work with faculty, staff, and partners with deep knowledge and experience in P-12 schools and classrooms in applied experiences that enrich their campus learning. Similarly, students working toward a degree in school counseling, school psychology, clinical mental health counseling, health promotion and wellness management, technology management, or educational leadership have the opportunity to participate in a diverse variety of field-based experiences with the support of SUNY Oswego faculty and staff in collaboration with a range of partners across areas of practice. Each applied experience will help support the authentic learning critical to success in the field while offering students the opportunity to explore their interests and areas of specialty with the support of local experts.
Placements and Residency Teacher Preparation
An integral part of our programs is students' participation in school and community-based field experiences that combine theory, methodology, and practice. Supported by talented faculty and professionals in various settings, students develop skills towards becoming a beginning educator or more effective existing member of the education field.
Our work at SUNY Oswego developing clinically rich residency experiences for teacher candidates has provided a transformative platform to prepare 21st century teachers for 21st century schools. The strands of our clinically rich programs come together to focus on improving K-12 student learning while enhancing candidate development, supporting teacher growth, and strengthening connections between schools and higher education.

Advisement and Academic Help
The college experience can be overwhelmingly wonderful, or just overwhelming at times. The School of Education provides specialized assistance to candidates through the academic advisement services provided in each department. If you are having academic difficulties, you should see your assigned personal academic advisor as soon as possible. In the event you are unable to contact your advisor, you need to contact the chair of the department of your major.
