FirstChoice Instructor Resources
We consider FirstChoice instructors to be campus superheros. You are one of the first educators who will inspire first year students to get excited about their majors, to see their own potential, and to make the most of their college experience.
You’re the experts, but we want to make sure that you have access to helpful resources and ideas that will enhance your first-year courses.
Understanding Our First-Year Students
In fall 2019 we welcomed 1492 first-year students to SUNY Oswego. 45% are from the NYC/Long Island region; 35% have self-identified as being culturally diverse; and 28% are the first in their families to attend college. In other words, quite a few students are navigating college without family support, others are adjusting to being a student at a predominately white institution, and some are experiencing culture shock of living in a rural environment. This is why the support from FirstChoice instructors like you is so important!
