Recent Legislation and Impact to Office Assistant 3 Series and Payroll Examiner 1 & 2 Exams
This communication is to make you aware of Chapter 307 of the Laws of 2024 which provides that provisional employees who receive a permanent appointment to the same title immediately following their provisional service shall have all time spent provisionally in such title credited towards the qualifications required to take a promotional examination as well as for eligibility for appointment from the resulting eligible list. This law went into effect on September 4, 2024. Further guidance from the Department of Civil Service regarding the implementation of this law is forthcoming.
In the meantime, in an effort to ensure that all employees who may now qualify for the currently announced Office Assistant 3 Series/Store and Mail Supervisor/Payroll Examiner 1 and 2 exams have an opportunity to apply, we have extended the application filing deadline until next Wednesday, September 18, 2024. We have also amended the announcement language to reflect the change in law. Please share this information with your agency’s employees.
Additionally, if your agency makes a permanent appointment of any current provisional employee in a qualifying title by the exam date of October 26, 2024, and if the employee has the requisite time needed to qualify for the exam (total of 45 days or more of permanent and provisional service prior to October 26, 2024) please advise your Staffing Services Representative, as such individuals may then qualify to sit for these exams. If the employee wishes to apply for the exam, and once exam eligibility is confirmed, the employee will be advised of a test date to take the exam. If your agency intends to make a permanent appointment of a current provisional in a qualifying title, please notify your Staffing Services Representative as soon as possible as testing sites and locations are limited, and doing so will assist in scheduling candidates as close to their homes as possible.
