SEFA hosting mums sale to support community causes

The annual State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) Fall Garden Mums Sale is now open, leading off the season's on-campus fundraising campaign that supports area charities.

Members of the campus community can purchase big, beautiful eight-inch potted mums provided by Oliver Paine Greenhouses in Fulton, featuring colors that include yellow, white, lavender (purple), red (maroon) and bronze (orange). All proceeds from this popular event support SEFA’s 2025-26 campaign.

Three new AI tools coming to SUNY Oswego

Earlier this summer, Oswego Today featured an article from SUNY Oswego leadership titled “What it means for SUNY Oswego to become an AI campus.” The article discusses the campus' adaptation to AI technology, the opportunities and challenges it presents, and its promotion of a culture of experimentation.

Extended hours for CTS Help Desk

To help ensure a successful start to the semester, the Campus Technology Services (CTS) Help Desk will hold extended hours for the following days:

Opening week, through Aug. 24:

  • Wednesday and Thursday: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: Noon to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday: Noon to 7 p.m.

LakerThrive Committee sponsors financial wellness presentation

The university's LakerThrive Committee invites employees to meet a local financial advisor and learn about a popular "three-bucket strategy" for retirement planning from 12:15 to 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, in 141 Marano Campus Center.

The event will also feature a chance for participants to ask any questions they might have about retirement planning, asset allocation, debt and insurance.

SEFA Stuff A Bus drive collecting items for local schoolkids

The university’s State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) campaign continues its sponsorship of the annual Stuff-A-Bus campaign, which provides school supplies to children in need in Oswego County’s nine school districts. 

Collection boxes around campus (see below) will receive drop-offs. The collection is underway and will run through Aug. 18. The effort unfolds in partnership with the United Way of Greater Oswego County.

Three dynamic Lakers join Oswego Alumni Association Board of Directors

An award-winning elementary teacher, a NASA scientist-turned-data-software engineer and a police investigator will bring their unique perspectives and experiences to the 32-member Oswego Alumni Association (OAA) Board of Directors. The new members began their three-year term in July.

Library Special Collections makes 19th-century presidential papers digitally available

Penfield Library’s Archives and Special Collections unit has recently completed work on a seven-year project to digitize and provide basic metadata for their collection of U.S. President Millard Fillmore’s papers.
