Seniors invited to GOLD gathering in Syracuse

The Oswego Alumni Association invites all current SUNY Oswego seniors and GOLD (Graduates Of the Last Decade) alumni from the Classes of 2010 to 2019 to a Syracuse Welcome to the City Party this Wednesday, Oct. 23, at The Fitz, 321 S. Salina St. in Syracuse.

The night of networking and connecting with fellow Lakers will be hosted by GOLD Leadership Council Members Anja Godlewski-Dykes and Kara Vormwald, both 2015 graduates.

'Literary Citizenship' class to host 'cash mob' event to support local business

The creative writing students in professor Donna Steiner’s "Literary Citizenship" course are hosting a “cash mob” at the River’s End Bookstore from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4. Students in this course work on projects that help local writing communities, and they decided to hold a cash mob because of the symbiotic relationship between writers and booksellers. 

Write Ways Series presents 'Writing Online: Access Matters'

Laker Dining Dollars promotion provides bonus funds to customers

Auxiliary Services is again offering its Fall Fiesta Laker Dining Dollars promotion through Oct. 27. As a way of saying thank you to customers, Auxiliary Services is increasing the bonus customers receive when they make a deposit into their Dining Dollars account.

During this period, deposits of of $50 or more receive a 10 percent bonus, while deposits of $25 to $49.99 will receive a 5 percent bonus.

24-Hour Challenge coming Oct. 24

The college seeks gifts to directly support students and programs through this year's 24-Hour Challenge on  Oct. 24.

This year's goal is for 500 donors, no matter the amount, from the Oswego family.

Any gift can be directed toward the donor's favorite part of campus, where the need is greatest or the general scholarship fund.

It's On Oz promoting Wear Purple Day on Oct. 24

It's On Oz requests members of the campus community to consider wearing purple on Thursday, Oct. 24, in support of Domestic Violence Awareness month.

Wear Purple Day is a local event that asks the public to help promote awareness by wearing purple on a designated day. Long used as a symbol for women seeking justice, the color purple is a rallying color for survivors to reclaim their power.

“The Fantasticks,” a story about forbidden lovers, incorporating a range of emotions and unexpected twists and turns, will open the SUNY Oswego theatre in Tyler Hall's Waterman Theatre.

Penfield Library to host Research Party Oct. 23

Penfield Library will host a Research Party from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23.

All students are welcome to come for pizza and snacks and to get help with their research. Librarians and peer tutors will be on hand to help with finding scholarly sources, formatting citations, writing and more. No appointment is necessary. Students are welcome to drop in and join the community.

Free flu shots offered for students

Health Services is sponsoring free flu immunizations for students age 18 and above on from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, on the second floor of Hewitt). Anybody with questions or needing accommodation can contact Health Services at 315-312-4100.

Future dates for free flu immunizations for students will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 16 and Oct. 23 in the same location.
