SUNY Center for Collaborative Online International Learning

This presentation will highlight the recent COIL Center initiative to link faculty and students at SUNY with their peers abroad through team-taught online courses which foreground the cross-cultural perspectives of the collaborating participant students.

The session will present an expanded role for faculty, international program staff, and distance educa-tion staff in together developing synergistic intercultural courses. We hope that those attending will be empowered to expand the international aspects of their teaching and research and will join us to develop new educational partnerships.

The presenter will also highlight his Cross-Cultural Video course which is built upon video exchanges between students at SUNY with students in other countries including Turkey, Mexico, Germany, Russia, Lithuania and Belarus. Course strategies will be presented and a few student-made videos will be screened, demonstrating the potential for bringing creative media production into the online classroom.
