Deadlines ahead for December 2024 graduates

Undergraduate students who will be graduating as of December 2024 and who have not yet filed online to graduate should do so assoon as possible.  Undergraduates who will complete requirements in the fall 2024 semester should file no later than Monday, April 1, 2024, for their name to be listed in the December Commencement program. 

Shineman Center greenhouse announces spring 2024 open hours

Over 200 species of plants are on display in the Shineman Center greenhouse, most with noteworthy ecological, evolutionary or social importance found primarily in tropical, arid and semiarid environments.

SUNY Chancellor King to visit SUNY Oswego on Feb. 14

SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. will visit SUNY Oswego on Wednesday, Feb. 14, including a press conference beginning at approximately 12:10 p.m. in The Space to announce a grant related to substantial mental health funding support for SUNY campuses, including SUNY Oswego.

Chancellor King’s visit will include meetings with SUNY Oswego President Peter O. Nwosu as well as students and employees.

 

Seeking presenters for 16th annual Sportsmanship Day Symposium

The 16th annual Sportsmanship Day Symposium, scheduled for Thursday, March 7, seeks presenters to help convey a multidisciplinary look at sportsmanship (or sportspersonship) in the 2024 edition.

Tutoring services available for spring 2024

The Office of Learning Services (OLS) is open for the semester on the first floor of Penfield Library to provide free tutoring services to all students.

'50s Valentine's Party scheduled next week

The campus is invited to a 1950s-themed Valentine's Party for couples, single people and friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16 in Marano Campus Center's Swetman Gym.

Admission is free as organizers put a new twist to Valentine's Day, with live performances from the Laker Poets Society, music, games and prizes.

Presented by the Student Association Programming Board and Student Association, the event encourages everyone to dress up in '50s attire, stop by, say hello to Elvis Presley and otherwise enjoy a fun Friday night.

Food drives to support community pantry

A pair of food drives on campus this week will support the Human Concerns Center, a pantry that serves the Oswego community.

The university's SEFA (State Employees Federated Appeal) committee will collect non-perishable items at two men’s hockey games during White Out Weekend (also S[o]uper Bowl Weekend), both at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, and Saturday, Feb 10. 

Five CNY high school students named finalists for Subnivean New Writers Award

Five young finalists have been named in a scholarship competition offered by SUNY Oswego: Lucas Anzalone, from Oswego; Paige Blair, from Cazenovia; Mike Cuyler, from Oswego; Millie Wu, from Skaneateles; and Gabriella Warner, from Oswego.

“The winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship to enroll as an English or creative writing major, thanks to the generosity of the Shineman Endowed Fund @ SUNY Oswego,” said Soma Mei Sheng Frazier, who facilitates the competition alongside students in two of her classes, “and the finalists will receive substantial support.”

Penfield Library’s most borrowed books for 2023

In 2023, Penfield Library was a busy place. Over 191,000 visitors came through the doors -- a 32 percent increase from 2022 -- and the library loaned out over 26,000 physical items for our users this year.

SHOP pantry opens today to support those in need

The SHOP (Students Helping Oz Peers) pantry will open for the semester at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 5.

SHOP provides students, faculty and staff with free non-perishable food, toiletries, sexual and reproductive health products, and professional and winter apparel.

Located in the basement of Penfield Library to the right of the elevator, SHOP is a collaborative effort between on- and off-campus partners who recognize the need to address food insecurity within the campus community.
