Community Cookout hosted by UP on menu April 28

SUNY Oswego University Police (UP) will host a free Community Cookout to connect with and thank the campus from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, in the Pathfinder Quad.

We've partnered with Alpha Phi Alpha and Delta Phi Epsilon to help make this a well-attended, student-focused event with our officers,” said UP Chief Kevin Velzy. “We’re always open to getting feedback from students and the campus community, plus this is a fun way to make connections and thank students for their efforts.”

Blackboard to Brightspace transition update

The SUNY Oswego Digital Learning Environment (DLE) transition team continues to work on the migration from Blackboard to Desire2Learn’s Brightspace learning management system. The selection of Brightspace was finalized by SUNY last fall with a system-wide implementation mandate. All SUNY Oswego courses taught or supplemented with Blackboard will be taught in Brightspace in the Fall 2022 semester.

Campus composting initiative taking root

SUNY Oswego's Sustainability Office, working with Auxiliary Services, has collected around 20,000 pounds of materials to turn into compost. It's one of green efforts their office initiates and coordinates.

Great Lake Review to host Spring Open Mic

The Great Lake Review student organization is collaborating with Oswego's popular River's End Bookstore, to put on a Spring Open Mic Night starting at 7 p.m, Thursday, April 21. 

Students, faculty and friends are all welcome to join and read any genre they would like, whether it's poetry, fiction, non-fiction or a play at the bookstore, corner of West First and Bridge Street in downtown Oswego. Participants can also perform if they wish, organizers said.

The SUNY Oswego Office of Business and Community Relations (OBCR) and its Leadership Oswego County (LOC) program will host a Nonprofit Boards and Community Activism Fair from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, at the Roy C. McCrobie Building, 41 Lake St. in Oswego.

Queer and Trans Outreach Center to host Day of Silence this Friday

SUNY Oswego's Queer and Trans Outreach Center (QTOC) will be hosting events for the Day of Silence on Friday, April 22. The Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network's (GLSEN) Day of Silence is a national student-led demonstration where LGBTQ+ students and allies all around the country take a vow of silence to protest the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ+ people in schools.
