Faculty-student video collaboration earns national award

A video project last spring by SUNY Oswego communication studies faculty member Michael Riecke and 2020 graduate Jack Geddes took an unexpected detour but still found the road to a national award.

March Mile: Employee Appreciation Walk set Tuesday

The Health Promotion and Wellness Club and the Health Promotion Honorary Society are sponsoring a 1-mile walk specifically for SUNY Oswego employees from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23, the college's second Wellness Day.

"This is a thank you for employees for all they do and a way to encourage wellness across the entire campus by having employees get out and walk, even if it is remote," said health promotion and wellness faculty member Elizabeth Keida.

The Office of Learning Services is providing online drop-in writing help from tutors for any and all courses across the disciplines. No appointment needed.

Drop-in sessions are available Mondays and Tuesdays from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Murat Yasar joins CLAS Dean's Office

I am very pleased to welcome Dr. Murat Yasar as the incoming associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences beginning July 1. From now until July, Murat will be serving as CLAS Dean Fellow where he will be taking a leadership role in several initiatives in the Dean’s Office.

He succeeds Dr. Patricia Clark who has admirably served as both Associate Dean and Interim Dean of CLAS, and now plans to return to the classroom as a full-time member of the faculty this fall following a productive and well-earned sabbatical this semester.

'Dog Sees God' opening delayed to Friday

Due to a technical matter, the opening of the Blackfriars Student Theatre Production "Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead" has been pushed back a day to Friday, March 19.

Written by Bert V. Royal, the play unfolds as an unofficial sequel to "Peanuts" where the characters have grown up and explore life and more adult questions.

Collaborative effort thinks summer, seeks playlist suggestions

With spring moving forward, the Division of Extended Learning wants to get the campus thinking about summer, summer playlists and Summer Sessions.

Extended Learning is compiling a weekly themed Sounds of Summer Playlist, starting this and every Monday morning for the next five weeks. Each theme is associated with summer sessions courses. 

Write Ways Series to discuss writing from models

Dr. Michael Murphy will present "Hey, I Like That: Writing from Models" at 3 p.m. Friday, March 26, in the next installment of the Write Ways Series.

Students and writers are often told to “be original,” to “write what you know,” and especially to “write in your own voice.” But people learn much about how to write from models — pieces of writing they find compelling. This workshop will explore how to find and use rhetorical models in your writing.

SUNY human resources self-service options available
