Class to present spoken-word readings for 'SOS: Speaking Our Silence'

Students enrolled in CRW 198 (a First-Year Signature Course called "I Have Something to Tell You: The Spoken Word") will perform their original spoken-word poetry at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21. The event will take place in the Historic Classroom (Room 222) in Sheldon Hall, and is open to the campus community. 

Each student will perform a spoken-word poem in three minutes or less. The performance will include student perspectives on contemporary American social issues like identity, addiction, relationships and perception.

International-award-winning pianist Robert Auler, professor and chair of music at SUNY Oswego, will present a Focus on Faculty concert of classical works at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, in the college’s Sheldon Hall ballroom.

Gift supports Rice Creek participation in Canal Forest Restoration Project

George and Jane Pauk recently pledged $5,000 per year for five years ($25,000 total) in support of the Canal Forest Restoration Project at SUNY Oswego's Rice Creek Field Station. This project is an initiative to restore white oak, swamp white oak, and white pine trees to areas along the New York State canal system, including Oswego.

Healthy salad bowl luncheon scheduled Dec. 12

The college's Employee Assistance Program invites the campus community to join them for a healthy salad bowl luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12 in 114 Marano Campus Center.

Participants only need to bring one salad topping to share, as EAP will provide bowls, lettuces, salad dressings, napkins and utensils.

EAP to host 'How to Navigate Holiday Stress Lunch and Learn'

The college's Employee Assistance Program invites faculty and staff to a free discussion on how to manage stress levels during this busy time of the year.

This EAP program will run noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, in 114 Marano Campus Center.

Attendees can bring your lunch, settle in and engage in the discussion with Dr. Amy Bidwell, associate professor of health promotion and wellness and a Certified Stress Management Specialist, along with students from the department of health promotion and wellness.

Events to celebrate International Education Week, world of opportunities

Every year, the SUNY Oswego Office of International Education and Programs welcomes more than 250 international students and scholars to campus and also sends about 400 students overseas to study abroad. The campus will celebrate these and other global connections during International Education Week, Nov. 18 to 22.
