Awards + honors

Three SUNY Oswego students, Benjamin Goldblatt, a broadcast and digital media major, Michael Lavalette, a broadcast and digital media major; and Quinn Galuski, a broadcast and digital major and cinema and screen studies double major, all earned honors in the 2026 BEA Festival of Media Arts — a national competition showcasing student work in broadcasting, film and digital storytelling.

At each SUNY Athletic Conference championship, the conference awards the student athlete at the finals site with the highest GPA. Four Lakers have won this award, known as the Elite 20 award, during the 2025-26 academic year.

SUNY Oswego President Peter O. Nwosu continues to elevate the university’s profile and expand its impact through two recent milestones: his appointment to the Presidents’ Leadership Council of the California-based Educational Credit Management Corporation (ECMC) Foundation, a national philanthropic organization, and his authorship of two chapters in a national academic leadership handbook.

SUNY Oswego President Peter O. Nwosu was honored with the EOP Champion Award at SUNY’s 2026 Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Alumni Reception on Feb. 14, which was held in conjunction with the 55th annual New York State Association of Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislators Conference in Albany.

Associate Vice President for Student Affairs Gabriel Marshall has earned an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of how to benefit SUNY Oswego and its students through his appointment as an inaugural SUNY LEADS Fellow-in-Residence.

SUNY Oswego University Police Officer Scott Maynard earned SUNY’s Professional Service Award, an honor that recognizes members for acts that greatly enhance the operation of their respective University Police departments.

SUNY Oswego’s range of sustainability activities once again earned recognition in Princeton Review’s "Guide to Green Colleges" for 2026.

SUNY Oswego’s integrative professional studies (IPS) degree program has been recognized nationally with the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE) Malcolm S. Knowles Award for outstanding achievement in adult education.

The “Golden Ticket” promotion from SUNY Oswego’s Division of Extended Learning has earned the Continuing Education Association of New York (CEANY) Exemplary Marketing Program Award, conferred at the association’s annual conference in November.

The Oswego Technology Student Association (OTSA) delivered a phenomenal performance at this year’s ​Technology and ​Engineering ​Education​ Collegiate ​Association (TEECA) East Conference, earning top awards across multiple events.
