Student Association seeks acts for 'Oz Got Talent'

October 25, 2021

The Student Association will stage its inaugural "Oz Got Talent" show from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, in the Marano Campus Center auditorium -- but first they seek a variety of talent to make the show come alive.

Organizers said they are seeking musicians, singers, dancers, rappers, comedians, magicians, artists, STEM majors and more, with an online submission due by Nov. 3. That form asks applicants to submit a video or photo related to their talent. Students, faculty and staff are all invited to take part.

Inaugural Publishing Festival slated Friday

October 21, 2021

The college’s first-ever Publishing Festival -- 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, in the Marano Campus Center auditorium -- will help students learn more about the publishing industry from those working in the field, including two alumni. Refreshments and prizes will be included.

CTS testing compatibility with Apple's new Monterey operating system

Apple will release its new operating system macOS Monterey version 12 on Monday, Oct. 25. CTS is currently testing the new release for compatibility with our wireless and wired networks as well as specific campus software. At this point, CTS urges Mac users not to upgrade until they are confident it works. CTS will send an update on testing results as soon as they know more.

SEFA seeks creative entries for its Baskets of Caring fundraiser

The State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) committee seeks groups in departments, offices or floors to let their creativity flourish while developing themed baskets for the hybrid Baskets of Caring fundraiser.

U.S. flags fly at half-staff on campus in honor of General Colin Powell

As a mark of respect for General Colin Powell, who passed away on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, and his life of service to the Nation, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. has directed the flag of the United States be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset on Oct. 22, 2021.

Annual Take Back the Night events happen tonight

Take Back the Night, the longstanding annual evening that promotes taking a stand against sexual violence, returns to SUNY Oswego on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

Sponsored by the Women's Center, the evening's events will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Marano Campus Center food and activity court where participants can make posters until around 6 p.m.  Performances by SUNY Oswego’s Gospel Choir and Del Sarte Dance Club, plus spoken word poetry and guest speakers, will follow.

The evening will culiminate with a traditional march across campus.

On-Campus Internship Expo slated Wednesday

Students can learn more about, and meet supervisors from, potential internship opportunities at the On-Campus Internship Expo from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, on the Marano Campus Center concourse.

SUNY Oswego has 38 campus departments with more than 45 on-campus internship programs, many of whom will have representatives at the expo. Attending this event will allow students to connect directly with supervisors, learn about their programs and hear firsthand from students currently completing academic internships with them.

SEFA to bring back Thanksgiving Pie Sale

The SUNY Oswego SEFA (State Employees Federated Appeal) planning committee will bring back its Thanksgiving Pie Sale from Oct. 25 to Nov. 5.

The Thanksgiving Pie Sale supports local communities that are in need of support. Proceeds made from this sale will benefit the Oswego area via United Way of Greater Oswego County and Human Concerns Food Pantry.

Laker student-athletes to rake leaves for senior citizens Nov. 7

Hundreds of SUNY Oswego student-athletes are ready to rake leaves in the city of Oswego on Sunday, Nov. 7 -- and they want to hear from senior citizens interested in this free assistance.

In its 16th year at SUNY Oswego, the project is part of an annual statewide community service project by Student-Athlete Advisory Council chapters at some SUNY Athletic Conference colleges. SAAC's mission is to generate a student-athlete voice among Oswego's intercollegiate teams and to enhance school spirit within athletics.
