Intercollegiate Athletics seeking Faculty Athletic Representative

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking faculty members interested in athletics to serve as our Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR).

President Nwosu to hold drop-in meetings today for students

SUNY Oswego President Peter O. Nwosu will host student drop-in hours today, Monday, April 22 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Marano Campus Center food and activity court.   

All students are encouraged to drop in, say hello to President Nwosu, ask a question or discuss a topic of importance to them.

Spring Day of Service happening Friday

The Student Engagement and Leadership Office sponsors a Spring Day of Service on Friday, April 26, which also is Arbor Day.

Members of the campus community are invited to drop into any service opportunity on our campus throughout the entire day. These will include:

'Wonzones Wisdom: A Journey in Entrepreneurship with Jason Shi' happening tonight

The Financial Management Association will host Jason Shi, the visionary behind Wonzones Calzones, talking about his story and entrepreneurship, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, in 221 Rich Hall.

While Shi is known as the face of the popular calzone spot, few know the journey and entrepreneurial genius behind the brand, organizers said.

Alum expert to speak tomorrow about mammal ecology

SUNY Oswego 1978 zoology alumnus Steve Sheffield, Ph.D. will return to campus to speak about his mammal ecology research on Friday, April 19, 

A professor in the Department of Natural Sciences at Bowie State University in Maryland, Sheffield will present a seminar titled "Gone with the Wind: A Long-term Assessment of Ecological Impacts of a Tornado Blowdown on a Small Mammal Community in Eastern Deciduous Forest in Western Pennsylvania."

The seminar will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. in room 122 of the Shineman Center.

Local author to present new book 'Girl in the Glass Coffin, The Tonkin Affairs'

Local author and historian Lee Ellen Hickey will present a talk on her new book “Girl in the Glass Coffin, The Tonkin Affairs” at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 18 in 232 Marano Campus Center. 

Sponsored by the SUNY Oswego History Club, the event is free and open to the campus community.

Students will have the possibility of purchasing a copy of the book at a discounted price as well as receiving a signature from Hickey.

'Straight from Gaza: A Medical Doctor' presentation tomorrow

The Muslim Student Association welcomes guest speaker Dr. Mohamed S. A. Elfar (MD, FACS, FCCM) for "Straight from Gaza: A Medical Doctor" in 102 Lanigan Hall at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 18.

Elfar will share firsthand insights from his recent volunteering experience in Gaza as a surgeon.

Free QPR training available for students on April 24

Students are welcome to attend virtual QPR training from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m on Wednesday, April 24. QPR stands for Question, Persuade and Refer, and is a program designed to educate people on how to recognize the warning signs of suicide and to help prevent it.

Honors Convocation to recognize outstanding students on Friday

The annual Honors Convocation, a ceremony recognizing student achievement, will take place at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 19, in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Hall.

Honors Convocation continues as a tradition observed each spring semester to recognize Oswego student award winners and those who have demonstrated excellence in their field of study or in service to the college community.

Awards from departments, the Oswego Alumni Association, Oswego College Foundation and Division of Extended Learning will mark this joyous celebration of academic success. 

University Police part of 'Click It or Ticket' seatbelt awareness campaign

University Police will remind members of the campus community of the importance of using seatbelts with a "Click It or Ticket" campaign between now and April 28.

The department regularly takes part in a spring traffic enforcement and awareness campaign, with this year focusing on the use of seatbelts for safety purposes.
