SHOP receives CNY Food Bank grant to support services

SUNY Oswego's SHOP (Students Helping Oz Peers) pantry happily announced receiving a $1,600 grant from the Food Bank of Central New York College Hunger Grant Funds.

SHOP opened its pantry in October 2016 as the first student-run food and clothing pantry within the SUNY system. It provides students, faculty and staff with free non-perishable food, toiletries, sexual and reproductive health products, and professional and winter apparel.

Be aware of fresh phish scams circulating

As the spring semester begins, Campus Technology Services (CTS) has become aware of phishing scams circulating through email and text messages impersonating campus employees and offices. The scams include “urgent” requests to accept unsolicited job offers, to click on links to websites asking for passwords, fraudulent Paypal and Venmo money requests, and to purchase gift cards. 

Winterfest slated this Saturday

The annual Winterfest, sponsored by the Office of Residence Life and Housing, will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. around Marano Campus Center, including in the Food Court and Hearth Lounge.

Activities including a sponsored open skate, synthetic ice curling, hot chocolate bar, caricaturist, air brush tattoos, disc jockey, Build-A-Buddy, DIY reed diffusers, miniature photo snow globe station, basketball shootout and more.

Deadline for 900+ scholarships fast approaching

The deadline is fast approaching for students to apply for more than 900 SUNY Oswego scholarships available for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Students complete one general application to start, via this link, and the online system will recommend scholarships for which they are eligible. (Students should click on each recommended opportunity to see if any other materials are required for submission.)

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Oswego County is pleased to announce a $7,465 grant from the New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) in support of RSVP’s ongoing work of engaging seniors aged 55 and up in volunteer service that meets essential needs throughout Oswego County.

The grant will assist with volunteer recognition and essential program costs allowing RSVP to continue to benefit residents of Oswego County in 2025.

Opportunities available to inspire, create, earn money through Sheldon Institute

Generative AI course launches for public relations and communication students

This spring 2025, public relations professor Khairul Islam is set to launch a new course titled “Generative AI in Public Relations.” This course aims to bridge a critical skills gap in the industry, equipping students with the knowledge and tools necessary for the evolving landscape of AI-driven public relations practices, he said.
