Summer four-day pilot workweek introduced for SUNY Oswego (updated)

To provide SUNY Oswego employees with a flexible work schedule during the summer period, and to create utility savings through greater energy efficiency and management during this period, the university is offering a four-day workweek pilot option for summer 2024. 

New features added to Brightspace

Recent changes to Brightspace bring exciting new features that can enhance your teaching and student learning. Creator+ is a new tool with promising new features. The newest version of TurnItIn allows for inline grading and the creation of peer assignments.

Creator+

The campus recently acquired D2L tool Creator+. This tool extends the Brightspace Editor with additional features to assist you in creating more dynamic content in your course. Creator+ is designed for ease of use for non-technical users.

Facilities Services discontinuing monthly burn run

SUNY Oswego's Facilities Services is discontinuing the burn run, which previously took place on a monthly basis. This run was used to legally dispose of sensitive documents.

2024 summer office hours set

May 8, 2024

Summer hours for office employees will begin effective Monday, May 13, 2024: Hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a half-hour lunch break.

Summer hours will remain in effect through Friday, Aug. 16, 2024.

Regular office hours will resume as of Monday, Aug. 19, 2024. 

New Pulse Mobile App widget in Brightspace

On Monday, May 13, 2024, the Pulse Mobile app banner displayed to students on the Class Progress and Grades pages within Brightspace will be removed. It will be replaced with a widget on the course home page. This change was discussed by all campuses in the SUNY Shared Brightspace instance and passed by the SUNY Digital Learning Environment (DLE)  Governance Council. This change was made to allow campuses to control the app’s advertisement.

SEFA again running Discover Oswego raffle

May 6, 2024

The SUNY Oswego State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) planning committee invites the campus community to learn more about what the Port City has to offer via the return of the Discover Oswego raffle with three prize packages, with tickets available through Tuesday, May 28. 

Proceeds will support the United Way of Greater Oswego County. Chances to win cost $5 each, with six chances for $25. The three baskets offer products and prizes unique to the community.

Torchlight set Friday; faculty/staff invited to join inner circle

The 88th Annual Commencement Eve Torchlight Ceremony -- one of Oswego’s longest-standing traditions -- will welcome the newest graduating students into the Oswego Alumni Association on Friday, May 10.

Cinema Studies Senior Showcase set for Wednesday

Students will screen some of their top work when the Cinema Studies Senior Showcase takes over Oswego 7 Cinemas on West Second Street in downtown Oswego from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8.

Faculty-Student Challenge Grants awarded to 11 projects

The Spring 2024 round of the Faculty-Student Challenge Grant applications funded 11 proposals for a total of more than $49,000 awarded among them.

These proposals were recommended for funding by members of the Scholarly and Creative Activity Committee and ultimately approved for funding by Provost Scott Furlong.
