New student-support effort seeks tie donations

A new initiative by Career Services, partnering with the State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) campaign, looks to support students with professional readiness by seeking donations of ties in advance of "Knot Ready?," an Oct. 1 event where ties will be given to students, as well as instructions how to tie them.

Library’s Welcome Fest event congratulates raffle winners

Congratulations to the 25 students who have won prizes in the Welcome Fest raffle, sponsored by Penfield Library and Student Orientation and Family Engagement.

Each year, Penfield Library hosts Welcome Fest to welcome new students into the library through fun activities like button making, karaoke, board games and puzzle chess. All students who attended received cell phone wallets, highlighters, stress balls and a chance to win raffle prizes.

Participants sought for 30-Day Sleep Challenge; info, goodie bags available today

Looking to improve your sleep habits? The campus is invited to take part in the 30-day Sleep Challenge to help elevate individual regimens and get some good sleep.

Run by the Office of the Dean of Students and the Oz Peer Eds, the challenge provides each participant eith a bag filled with goodies to aid them and a PDF sleep journal to track their sleep.

Prizes are available for everyone who completes the challenge. and five students will be chosen at random for a grand prize.  

Accessibility training opportunities available

The SUNY Oswego Workgroup on Accessibility Practices invites the campus on a journey to make SUNY Oswego more inclusive and accessible. In anticipation of new Title II regulations, the group is offering multiple opportunities to engage in accessibility trainings: 

  • "Access: A Quest Toward Inclusion" is a course designed for all members of the campus, faculty, staff and students. Use this link to register. 

Work on Oswego's Bridge Street Bridge beginning today

Work begins today, Sept. 8, on the city of Oswego's main east-west thoroughfare, the Bridge Street Bridge on Route 104. 

The New York State Department of Transportation project, with work done by Slate Hill Constructors Inc., gets underway on Sept. 8 with temporary lane closures, the city announced on Friday. One lane will be closed at a time, starting with the westbound lanes. These will take an hour or two per lane to do inspections. 

If defects are found, lane closures will be a few days long to make spot repairs.

Call open for SUNY Honorary Degree nomination and/or commencement speaker suggestions

Dear SUNY Oswego colleagues, students, and University Council members,

Each year, SUNY Oswego nominates between one and five exemplary individuals to SUNY for consideration of receiving a SUNY honorary doctorate degree. SUNY Oswego typically presents SUNY honorary degree awards to recipients at SUNY Oswego commencement ceremonies and asks the recipients to serve as the ceremony's commencement speaker.

Virtual Study Hall offered Sept. 8

Those looking for a space to stay on track with coursework, connect with classmates or get quick answers to their questions can explore this and more with the Virtual Study Hall from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8.

Cameras can be on or off, depending on what makes a student most comfortable.

The gathering provides an opportunity to meet other students and build connections.

Oswego Blasters start weekly Nerf games

Student organization Oswego Blasters announced that their weekly Nerf games will kick off this Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. in Marano Campus Center's Swetman Gym.

Students are invited to participate in this free activity. Oswego Blasters is a community-driven organization that hosts semi-casual/competitiveish organized Nerf games. The organization will provide blasters and darts to participants.

Applications open for Pluralism mini-grants

SUNY Oswego’s Pluralism Committee invites you to apply for our Pluralism mini-grants for fall 2025. The goal of these grants is to build an institutional commitment to pluralism while enhancing the values of respect, cooperation and relation. 

To that end, the Pluralism Committee, with support from InterFaith America, is pleased to award ten $500 grants to faculty, staff, and student organizations that seek to incorporate pluralism into their class content and/or university events.
