The Department of Student Engagement and Leadership (SEL) would like to congratulate Kelsey Jones on her opportunity for career advancement as she leaves SUNY Oswego to serve as the assistant director of civic and community engagement in the Office of Student Leadership and Engaged Learning at Virginia Commonwealth University. 

Jones joined SEL in summer 2022 after serving as an academic success coach at Berkshire Community College.

Women's swimming and diving selected to Scholar All-America Team

The Laker women's swim and diving team was among the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA)'s 722 teams from 417 institutions selected to the Scholar All-America Team for the spring 2024 semester.

SUNY Oswego’s Engineering Advisory Board supports student success, makes new appointments to the board

The spring 2024 meeting of SUNY Oswego’s Engineering Advisory Board discussed key strategic objectives and program initiatives to serve the university’s engineering and computer science programs and the greater community.  

Created in 2009, the Engineering Advisory Board was formed as the central stakeholder to the undergraduate engineering program. Comprised of industry experts and leaders, the partnership between higher education and industry has proven successful, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean Kristin Croyle explained.  

Cello and piano recital slated Sunday

The Music Department is pleased to announce a guest cello and piano recital featuring cellist Sara Wollan and pianist Marco Rapattoni at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, in Sheldon Hall ballroom. The event is free and open to the public.

American cellist Wollan joins the eclectic Italian pianist Rapattoni in a concert featuring highlights of the chamber music duo repertoire. They will perform cello and piano works by Debussy, Brahms, Martucci, and the world premiere of "The Devil’s Dance" by NYC composer/ jazz vibraphonist Bill Ware.

WRVO commemorates Juneteenth with radio special 'What Is Owed?'

WRVO Public Media is commemorating Juneteenth with the one-hour radio special "What Is Owed?" exploring the history of reparations demands and efforts to repay victims of systematic oppression against Black Americans.

Airing at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, the special emphasizes the voices of Black activists fighting for reparations since the nation's founding.

Lake Effect Cafe sets summer hours

Lake Effect Cafe in Penfield Library announced summer hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, through July 26.

The cafe serves Starbucks beverages, fresh baked goods, soup and grab-n-go options.

Shineman Oswego Scholarships to support local residents attending SUNY Oswego

Thanks to underwriting from the Richard S. Shineman Foundation, a new scholarship will support Oswego County students attending SUNY Oswego, starting this fall.

For fall 2024, the Shineman Oswego Scholars program will award 25 scholarships to local students for $2,500 per year for up to four years. Starting in fall 2025, the program will provide 10 $1,250 renewable scholarships across the county.

Each of the county’s nine school districts has two recipients, with another seven awards available in open competition throughout the county.
