Biological sciences seminar to discuss fishery, research, science communication

New York Sea Grant Fisheries Specialist Stacy Furgal will discuss "Great Lakes Fishes, Research, and Science Communication" at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19 in 132 Shineman Center as a Biological Sciences Departmental Seminar.

Furgal will cover a range of topics, including career exploration, current research projects and what day-to-day life is like as an extension specialist working in the Great Lakes region.

Campus COVID update for fall 2025

Dear students, staff and faculty:

We wanted to provide you with an update about COVID-19 and new changes from the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) that took place as of March 2024. The CDC has changed COVID guidance to mirror other respiratory virus guidelines, like the flu and RSV.  

Mahar Hall officially closed for entry

September 17, 2025

Effective immediately, Mahar Hall is closed and no entry is authorized as the building prepares for forthcoming renovations.

Individuals with keys for any space in Mahar are asked to drop them off at University Policy Dispatch, Attn: Brian Clyne, in Pathfinder Hall.

Final reminder: Panopto, Zoom retention policy running Sept. 19

As a final reminder, the retention policy for cloud storage with Panopto and Zoom will be completed Friday, Sept. 19. The policy is run annually on this day. The retention policy will do the following:

Fire Safety Day, mock room burn slated Sept. 17

September 15, 2025

A Fire Safety Day event -- including a mock burn demonstration of a residence hall room -- will unfold from 12:30 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, in Parking Lot E-17 (north of the Poucher Wing of Marano Campus Center).

Attendees can see how quickly fire can spread and how smoke alarms and safe practices can make all the difference, organizers said. The first burn will take place at 12:30 p.m., the last burn at 4:30 p.m.

Spring 2025 courses were set to inactive, but instructors have the option to make them active if they wish. Students with incomplete grades still have access to these inactive courses.

Call for nominations: SUNY Chancellor's Awards and Distinguished Faculty Ranks

Each year, the State University of New York recognizes outstanding faculty service, teaching, librarianship, scholarship and creative activity through the conferral of Chancellor's Awards for Excellence and the promotions to the Distinguished Faculty ranks.

SUNY Oswego is authorized to submit up to four nominations for each of the following Chancellor's Awards:

Inclusive Access adoption deadline for spring 2026 approaching

SUNY Administration requires adherence to a new reporting schedule to ensure Inclusive Access (IA) costs are reflected on students' tuition bills in compliance with the Board of Trustees policy. Meeting this deadline is mandatory for any course or section to be included in the IA program, which supports textbook affordability for students and faculty.

Update on Studio H in Hewitt Union

The university’s newest food operation, Studio H in Hewitt Union, is currently out of service to address logistical issues.

Due to ongoing electrical challenges, the cafe is unable to serve patrons at this time. Auxiliary Services is working closely with colleagues in Facilities Services to put a permanent solution in place so they can keep the lights on and the ovens baking without interruption.

Flu, COVID shots available at upcoming clinics

The flu and COVID vaccines will now be available for students and employees/ SUNY Oswego, in partnership with Wegmans Pharmacy, will host several vaccination clinics in Swetman Gym on the following dates:

• Thursday, Sept. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (registration now open)
• Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (registration open as of Sept. 10)
• Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (registration opens on Sept. 30)
