The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is pleased to share the inaugural issue of our semi-annual ORSP Newsletter. This new communication highlights recent accomplishments, upcoming funding opportunities, and resources that support research, scholarly, and creative activities across SUNY Oswego.

Oneida and Funnelle Hall network upgrades next week

December 8, 2025

Campus Technology Services (CTS) will perform network hardware firmware upgrades to Oneida and Funnelle Hall the week of Dec. 15. 

Here is the maintenance schedule:

Funnelle Hall

  • Dec. 16, 6:30 to 8 a.m.: Wired and wireless network service will be unavailable while switches reboot earlier in the morning.
  • Dec. 18,  6:30 to 8 a.m.

Oneida Hall

Seven projects earn Student Scholarly and Creative Activities Grants

The Fall 2025 round of the Student Scholarly and Creative Activities Grant will fund seven proposals totaling nearly $7,000. 
These proposals were recommended for funding by members of the Scholarly and Creative Activity Committee and ultimately approved for funding by Provost Scott Furlong. 
Winners include:
  • “40 Hz Prototype Medical Stimulation Device”
    Students: Craig Bemis, Jose Dutan, Riley Thompson

10 projects supported by fall 2025 Faculty Scholarly and Creative Activities Grants

December 8, 2025

The Fall 2025 round of the Faculty Scholarly and Creative Activities Grants will fund 10 proposals totaling nearly $28,000. 
These proposals were recommended for funding by members of the Scholarly and Creative Activity Committee and ultimately approved for funding by Provost Scott Furlong. 

Winners include:
  • Ellen Karboski (Biological Sciences), "Oswego Harbor Larval Fish Community"

Campus to host 'Art for All: Engaging New and Diverse Audiences' conversation

CNY Arts and CenterState CEO will present "Art for All: Engaging New and Diverse Audiences" -- an inspiring and uplifting conversation about the transformative power of the arts in the region -- from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, in the Hewitt Hall screening room (room 27).

Winter Break closing schedule for 2025-26

Dining Centers 

  • Lakeside will close after lunch, Friday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m.
  • Cooper will close after brunch, Saturday, Dec. 13, at 3 p.m. 
  • Pathfinder will close after dinner, Friday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m.

  • Lakeside will reopen Thursday, Jan 22, at 4:30 p.m. 
  • Cooper will reopen Saturday, Jan 24, at 10 a.m. 
  • Pathfinder will reopen Saturday, Jan 24, at 9 a.m. 

Employees invited to University Community Breakfast on Dec. 9

President Peter O. Nwosu invites SUNY Oswego employees to join him for this year's University Community Breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Hall.

There is no formal program, just an invitation for faculty and staff to enjoy a complimentary meal and catch up with colleagues.

Penfield Library offering extended hours

December 2, 2025

Penfield Library has begun extended hours for the last week of classes and finals week.

The campus is invited to come and enjoy the library's study spaces and resources until 2 a.m. Sunday and weeknights.

After library hours, the 24-hour study spaces remain available to current students with your ID card. 

Volunteer ushers sought for December Commencement

The Public Ceremonies Committee is seeking volunteer ushers to welcome graduating students' families, friends and other supporters to the December Commencement ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 13.

Ushers help with greetings, directions and helping people with special needs at the ceremony, which begins at 10 a.m. in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Hall in Marano Campus Center. Ushers are asked to arrive by 8:30 a.m. because doors open at 9. The ceremony is expected to end around noon.

Nominations invited for Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence

December 2, 2025

SUNY Oswego seeks to recognize its outstanding students through the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence, the highest honor bestowed upon a student by the State University of New York. The university seeks nominations of students for this year’s award by Dec. 19. Please note that only those students graduating between June 2025 and May 2026 are eligible to be nominated
