Deadline extended for Hubert B. Smith Diversity Scholarship nominations

The Hubert B. Smith Diversity Scholarship will be awarded to four students for the next academic year, 2022-23, with a nomination deadline recently extended to April 11.

Each recipient will receive between $1,000 and $1250.

This award honors Hubert B. Smith, retired assistant provost and director of the Office of Learning Support (now the Office of Learning Services), for his many years of service in the promotion of human diversity and academic excellence at SUNY Oswego.

Student Involvement Award applications now open

At long last, Spring Break is upon us. Our students deserve this time off after months of working hard to achieve their dreams, and to keep each other safe during the pandemic.

To our students, I hope you can take some time for yourself to have fun and recharge. Whether your time off is at home, on vacation, working, participating in community service projects, or whatever you decide, please be safe. Remember that COVID tests are readily available on campus and in our communities.

Additional layer of authentication coming to popular campus services on March 14

Passwords are no longer considered to be the most secure way to protect digital data and services. Instead, many organizations are adding a second layer of security in addition to a password. Often this layer involves using something that a user physically has such as a smartphone or hardware token. An example of this is online banking where you can have a code sent to your cell phone. This is called multi-factor authentication (MFA) and it is coming to  SUNY Oswego.

Campus compatibility with Apple's new macOS Monterey

Apple released macOS Monterey (macOS 12), its newest operating system on Oct. 25, 2021. At the time, Campus Technology Services (CTS) urged the campus not to upgrade until they were able to test network and campus software compatibility.

Upon the completion of CTS' testing and evaluation, faculty and staff may now choose to upgrade to Monterey. Before doing so, please be aware of the following:

Middle States Self-Study meetings set this week

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Self-Study Evaluation Team has begun their virtual visit to reaffirm the college's MSCHE accreditation. The college invites faculty, staff and students to attend open forums that will take place during this important visit.

In-person Career and Internship Fair offers opportunities on March 2

SUNY Oswego's In-person Career and Internship Fair is today -- 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2 -- offering opportunities for students to start designing their futures.

Representatives from a variety of for-profit, government and nonprofit organizations will be available in Marano Campus Center's Swetman Gym to connect with students, help them learn about different career fields and recruit them for full-time employment, internship and summer job opportunities.

College rolls out streamlined financial aid platform

SUNY Oswego has launched its implementation of CampusLogic -- an intuitive online, self-service platform for students to streamline financial aid processes including the verification process.

This new mobile personalized platform makes navigating financial aid easier. The new system will allow students to complete financial aid processes on their own time, on the device of their choice. Lakers will be able to:

Annual Johnson Hall Bidding Bonanza set Wednesday

Organizers from Johnson Hall will present the annual Bidding Bonanza fundraiser that supports the Johnson Hall Scholarship from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, in the Sheldon Hall ballroom.

The event will include a silent auction, several raffles and a live auction. While many of the items donated are from local merchants, the majority of themed baskets were made by the rest of Johnson Hall.
