Hazing prevention efforts on campus evolving

SUNY Oswego is ramping up hazing prevention and education efforts across campus heading into the 2023-2024 academic year. Representatives from the Office of Student Conduct, Intercollegiate Athletics, Campus Recreation, and Student Engagement and Leadership have been meeting regularly since January 2023 to develop a campus-wide strategy for engaging students, organizations, coaches, and club advisors on the topic of hazing.

One of the first tasks taken up by the group was to update Oswego’s institutional anti-hazing statement:

Registration for semester library study carrels begins today

Penfield Library is once again offering private study carrels for students, faculty and professional staff. These semester-long study carrels provide individuals with dedicated space in the library for study and research. Offered on a first-come, first-served basis, registration begins at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 28, and continues until gone.

SEFA continuing to support Totally Teal campaign

With September as National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and in honor of the late Mary Gosek, the SUNY Oswego SEFA (State Employees Federated Appeal) campaign will continue the Totally Teal campaign for fundraising and awareness. 

A gathering and walk of remembrance will take place at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 19. For this popular annual event, participants are asked to wear teal and gather in front of Culkin Hall for a photo and a walk around the lagoon. Refreshments will be available after the walk.

A conversation with IHEP Board Chair Dr. Peter Nwosu, incoming President of SUNY-Oswego

On August 15 Dr. Peter Nwosu became the 11th president of State University of New York-Oswego. Dr. Nwosu, a lifelong advocate for equitable access and success in higher education, has also served on IHEP’s Board of Directors since February 2021 and is currently Board Chairperson. Until early August, he was Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Success at Herbert H. Lehman College of The City University of New York (CUNY) where he oversaw key aspects of the institution’s mission and strategic goals.

Bargains available at this week's Oz Thrift Sale

The Office of Sustainability starts the fall semester with the bi-annual Oz Thrift Sale, filled with new-to-you bargains and treasures through this weekend.

Hours for the sale, taking place in the Sheldon Hall lower level, are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday (Aug. 24 and 25), and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 26 and 27).

Note that Sunday is bag sale day, where visitors can bring in a bag and fill it for $5.
