Fire Safety Month kickoff activities scheduled

SUNY Oswego’s Fire Department invites the entire campus community to participate in fire safety events happening on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Hewitt Quad from 12:25 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature a variety of engaging activities and essential safety tips.

Call for nominations: SUNY Chancellor's Awards and Distinguished Faculty ranks

Each year the State University of New York recognizes outstanding faculty service, teaching, librarianship, scholarship and creative activity through the conferral of Chancellor's Awards for Excellence and the promotions to the Distinguished Faculty ranks.

SUNY Oswego is authorized to submit up to four nominations for each of the following Chancellor's Awards:

Annual ALANA Conference to elevate multicultural voices and leadership

The African, Latino, Asian and Native American (ALANA) Student Leadership Conference, Sept. 16 to 21, provides events that prioritize teaching multicultural student leaders ways to extend their voices across campus for a better Oswego community.

SUNY honorary degree nominations due this week

Each year, SUNY Oswego nominates between one and five exemplary individuals to SUNY for consideration of receiving a SUNY honorary doctorate degree. SUNY Oswego typically presentes SUNY honorary degree awards to recipients at its commencement ceremonies and asks the recipients to serve as the ceremony's commencement speaker.

SUNY Oswego joins upcoming Oswego Pride Festival

SUNY Oswego will have a table at the Oswego Pride Festival this Saturday, Sept. 14, at Civic Plaza, located between Oswego City Hall and Oswego Police Station.

The festival runs from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and is accessible via the Oswego bus route to West First Street or West Second Street. There will be vendors, entertainment and food, as well as free swag at SUNY Oswego's table.

President Nwosu to hold drop-in meetings today for students

SUNY Oswego President Peter O. Nwosu will host student drop-in hours today, Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the Marano Campus Center Food Court.   

All students are encouraged to drop in, say hello to President Nwosu, ask a question or discuss a topic of importance to them.

Call for nominations to serve on the SUNY Awards and Promotions Selection Committee

The process by which SUNY Oswego recommends nominees for SUNY Chancellor Awards and the promotion to Distinguished Professorships involves the actions of a selection committee.

The selection committee is responsible for soliciting campus nominations, reviewing nomination files, evaluating all nominees, and ranking nominations as a recommendation for action by the president.

If elected, Faculty Assembly policy calls for the members of the committee to consider nominations for the following categories:

State geology conference, Adirondacks trip scheduled this week

The SUNY Oswego Geology Club and geology faculty will be hosting the New York State Geological Association Field Conference on Sept. 14 and 15, and members of the campus community are invited to attend.

Application deadline next week for Federal Work Study research assistantships

The Office of Research and Creative Activities (ORCA) and the Financial Aid Office support up to 12 $2,000 undergraduate and graduate student research assistantships (URAs) through the Federal Work-Study (FWS) program.

The assistantships are for students interested in research and faculty who need support with their research for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Students can earn up to $2,000 (~133 hours) and can start their hours in the fall or spring semester.

Oswego KidsTech registration now open

Children can receive the opportunity to explore the world of STEM through SUNY Oswego’s award-winning enrichment programs: STEM 4 Kids and Young Inventors.

STEM 4 Kids (grades K-3) and Young Inventors (grades 4-6) offer hands-on, engaging activities designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills. These programs, sponsored by National Grid, provide take-home learning materials so children can continue their STEM adventures beyond the classroom.
