This workshop will demonstrate how YouTube's automatic captioning service may be used to automatically create closed captioning to meet accessibility standards for short videos. This is particularly useful for faculty creating video content to support a flipped classroom.

This fall, students in selected classes in the School of Education were loaned iPads for educational use. In this project group meeting, participants will discuss the status of the project, discuss any problems or issues that have appeared,  and assemble plans for future workshops. Anyone interested in learning more about this project is welcome to attend.

In this session, John Kane and Dave Kahn will demonstrate how Splashtop Whiteboard (available on iPads and Android tablets) may be used to provide electronic whiteboard capability when wirelessly paired with desktop computers connected to classroom projectors. 

Dave Kahn will discuss some of the new features available in iOS 8 and Yosemite. These new operating system releases offer new possibilities for seamlessly working across devices.

In this workshop, John Kane and Dave Kahn will demonstrate how a variety of apps (including Microsoft, Apple, and Google apps) may be used to create, edit, and present Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents using mobile devices.

In this workshop, John Kane and Dave Kahn will demonstrate how videos may be recorded, edited, and published using iMovie on an iPhone or iPad. 

This workshop will examine how PDF Expert and other PDF editing apps may be used to create and edit PDF documents. Particular focus will be placed on examining how student work submitted as Microsoft Office documents (or as PDFs) may be opened, annotated (using text markup or by embedding text or audio notes), and returned to students electronically. The use of these apps to fill out PDF forms and toelectonically add signatures to documents will also be demonstrated.

This workshop will examine a range of accessories that can increase the usefulness of tablet computers and smartphones. A partial list of accessories that will be discussed include: bluetooth headsets and speakers, bluetooth keyboards, usb audio mixing boards/usb microphones, wireless printers, wireless video streaming through Apple TV/Chromecast/etc, styluses, and portable projectors. 

In this workshop. John Kane will provide an informal overview of the Calibrated Peer Review software system developed at UCLA. This system automates the process of peer- and self-assessment of student written work. A brief summary of feedback from the first use of this system in a large introductory class will be provided.

This workshop will examine a variety of ways to present classroom or conference presentations from mobile devices. A brief overview of mobile presentation apps will be provided along with a discussion of how Splashtop Whiteboard or Doceri may be used as wireless mobile whiteboard controllers for podium computers.
