CSEA annual vacation accrual cap extended

The annual vacation accrual cap for CSEA employees has been extended for this year. Normally, any vacation accruals in excess of 40 days at the close of business on March 31 are forfeited to bring vacation leave credits down to 40 days on April 1. However, unused annual leave can now be carried over for an additional period through December 31, 2021.

These changes will automatically be reflected in the SUNY Time and Attendance system. No action on your part is necessary.

Sounds of Summer Playlist seeks dance songs

For its weekly themed Sounds of Summer Playlist, Extended Learning wants to know about songs that always make you want to dance.

Each weekly playlist theme, which will create a curated Spotify playlist, is associated with summer sessions courses. SUNY Oswego is offering several courses this summer toward the health promotion and wellness degree. "Essentials of Exercise Physiology" is a popular course students can add to their summer 2021 playlist to stay on track to complete your program on time.

Library discontinuing hour of closing for cleaning

Penfield Library has discontinued its daily closing for an hour (3 to 4 p.m.) for cleaning.

Custodial staff can accomplish cleaning and sanitizing of frequently used surfaces throughout the day without disrupting those using the library.

Penfield Library and the Office of Facilities Services have consulted to determine this solution is viable for students, cleaners and library personnel.

Oswego Hospital to host vaccine clinic on Friday

Oswego Hospital will offer a first-dose vaccine clinic from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, March 26. 

Hospitals are now able to vaccinate anyone eligible under New York State guidelines. To check your eligibility, visit the "Am I Eligible?" website. The clinic will be held at the Oswego Hospital's JPC conference room, 110 West Sixth St. in Oswego. 

Deadline extended for Artswego funding applications

The deadline for applying for Artswego funding, a key avenue of support for college arts events, has been extended to Monday, March 29.

The Hubert B. Smith Diversity Scholarship will be awarded to four students for the next academic year, 2021 - 2022. Each recipient will receive $1,200.

University Police join effort to remind about dangers of texting, distracted driving

SUNY Oswego’s University Police will join law enforcement agencies nationwide April 5 to 12 to remind drivers about the dangers and consequences of texting and distracted driving. 

This annual campaign is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) national “U Drive. U Text. U Pay.” high-visibility enforcement effort.

Business analytics minor provides access to growing field

Analytics, the use of and analysis of data to help make decisions, continues to a growing field in business and other areas -- and sits at the heart of one of the college's newest minors.

The minor in business analytics applicable to all fields and majors, not just business. Journalists, for example, increasingly use machine learning to help with reporting.

Reminder: Zoom recordings from spring/summer 2020 will be removed next week

A reminder to faculty that their Zoom recordings from the spring and summer semesters will be removed starting next week, on April 5.

Campus Technology Services notes that best practices recommend that recordings for campus lectures, meetings and events be culled on a regular basis. These recordings are generally only relevant in the semester in which they are created and utilized. 

'Best Practices for Writing Fellowship Applications' to present workshop for students

Dr. Lyn Blanchfield will present "Best Practices for Writing Fellowship Applications: A Workshop for Students" at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 2, as part of the college's Write Ways Series.

This interactive workshop will focus on techniques and tricks for completing fellowship applications for positions after graduation. Please bring any questions or concerns you have to share.
