Bellinger also shares how the support and mentorship of SUNY Oswego's faculty, particularly Dr. Shashi Kanbur, SUNY Distinguished Professor and director of SUNY Oswego's Physics Department's astronomy program, set him on his path to success.

Campus server maintenance scheduled for Saturday

University monitoring nationwide data breach

The State University of New York at Oswego and college campuses across the country are monitoring three related nationwide data breaches traced back to MOVEit Transfer, a file transfer software used by third-party contractors.

Community Bike Rodeo safety event slated Aug. 2

The Oswego County Traffic Safety Board and SUNY Oswego’s University Police will team up to host a Community Bike Rodeo family safety event from noon to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the Romney Lot (Parking Lot 7) off Route 104 on campus.

The event is free and open to the public.

Organizers will go over bike safety information, provide helmet-fitting demonstrations and more. Visitors can access a course set up for bikes, scooters or rollerblades.

Penfield Library wireless network maintenance set next week

From July 31 to Aug. 3, Campus Technology Services (CTS) will update the wireless network throughout Penfield Library.  

During this timeframe, old wireless equipment will be replaced with new. The impact on users should be minimal as any devices connected to the equipment being replaced should automatically connect to other equipment not being replaced. 

Should you happen to experience a wireless disconnect during these days while in the library, please wait 5 to 10 minutes to reconnect your device.

Mary Walker quarter to be unveiled live Thursday on ABC’s ‘GMA3’

A new honor for locally born hero Mary Walker –- the unveiling of a U.S. quarter bearing her likeness –- will take place live on NewsChannel 9 locally, or on other ABC affiliates and online, during Good Morning America’s spinoff “GMA3: What You Need to Know,” which airs at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 20.

Born in Oswego Town, Walker is the namesake of the university’s health center, the only woman to receive the U.S. Congressional Medal of Honor and a noted pioneer in social issues, particularly related to women’s rights.

Panopto retention policy goes into effect in September

Campus Technology Services will implement a new retention policy for institutional cloud storage with the Panopto video service. The new retention policy will be as follows:

  • Archive all content not viewed within the last two years
  • Removal of all content not viewed within the last three years

While archived content is still in Panopto, you must request that it be restored, which can take up to 48 hours.

Observing Disability Pride Month

July brings the celebration of Disability Pride Month to recognize the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990. The ADA is a federal law prohibiting discrimination against a person with disability in order to provide equal opportunity. 

A person with a disability can include having physical or mental, temporary or permanent, and visible or invisible impairments. Whether you are an ally or within the community, it's important to recognize our differences and be open to learning from each other
