OLS offering new online tutoring option

The Office of Learning Services (OLS) has contracted with ThinkingStorm, an online tutoring service to provide free online tutoring for SUNY Oswego students. 

This service complements the no-cost, peer tutoring OLS provides for all SUNY Oswego students through its three distinct centers: The STEM Center, Tutoring Center and Writing Center all offer in-person appointment-based and drop-in tutoring sessions.

Auditions seek students for theatre directing class projects

SUNY Oswego's "Theatre 341: Principles of Directing" class will conduct auditions from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, for their fall 2022 final scene projects.

Auditions will take place in Room 42 of Tyler Hall.

The class is seeking all interested students to be actors in their final scene projects for the course. This is an open call, so no apppointment is needed. There also is no preparation required, as the audition material will be provided at the call.

SUNY Chancellor's Awards and Distinguished Faculty nominations open

Each year the State University of New York recognizes outstanding faculty service, teaching, librarianship, scholarship, and creative activity through the conferral of Chancellor's Awards for Excellence and the promotions to the Distinguished Faculty ranks.

SUNY Oswego is authorized to submit up to four nominations for each of the following Chancellor's Awards:

Save the date for the 1861 Giving Challenge

Members of the campus community are invited to save the date to participate in the 1861 Giving Challenge to support SUNY Oswego students.

On Thursday, Sept. 29 -- one week from today -- the fundraising effort needs help from the Oswego family to maximize a matching challenge.

Jeff ’92 and Ginger Bray Sorensen ’93 will donate $100,000 to SUNY Oswego if 861 people make a gift in 1,861 minutes, starting at 8 a.m. (eastern) Thursday, Sept. 29 through 3:01 p.m. (eastern) Friday, Sept. 30.

UUP hosts tabling to keep members informed, connected

The SUNY Oswego chapter of the United University Professions (UUP) will host a tabling event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, outside the Marano Campus Center auditorium with information about contract negotiations, more information about the union and an opportunity to pick up UUP swag.

The nation’s largest higher education union, UUP represents the faculty and professional staff of the SUNY system including Oswego.

Sustainable Development Goals online conference open to campus

SUNY Oswego is a member of United Nations Academic Impact, and members of the campus community are invited to take part in the online conference Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Action Zone, running Sept. 21 to 23.  The SDGs are 17 goals that every country agreed to work toward over a 15-year period.  Free registration is available at the link above by clicking "enter the zone."  

Help wanted: Admissions student tour guides for paid position

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is hiring current SUNY Oswego students for paid tour guide positions. 

The office works with students throughout the process and offers flexible hours. Tour guides have an opportunity to get to know the historic campus, and can use the experience as a starting point for many other leadership roles on at SUNY Oswego.

This role includes a short and compensated training period.
