Penfield Library to host Research Party today

November 15, 2019

Students are invited to attend a Research Party at Penfield Library this evening (Nov. 19) from 6 to 8 p.m.

All students are welcome to come for pizza and snacks and to get help with their research. Librarians and peer Writing Center tutors will be on hand to help with finding scholarly sources, formatting citations, writing and more. No appointment is necessary; sudents are welcome to drop in and join the community.

Throughout the past year, SUNY Oswego has engaged with students, alumni, faculty, staff and administrators in an institution-wide Branding Exploration – a self-reflective marketing initiative that seeks to gain a greater understanding of the Oswego brand, and collectively aims to define the institution’s identity.

Discover Wellness to offer 'Find a Healthier You' program

The college's Discover Wellness program will offer a "Find A Healthier You" session on the topic of functional wellness on both Nov. 25 and Dec. 4 at 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. in the Wellness Lab in the basement of Wilber Hall.

All faculty and staff are invited to this free program. To reserve a spot, e-mail Elizabeth Keida at elizabeth.keida@oswego.edu. The first 15 to register will receive a wellness incentive gift.

Program to offer sessions on nutrition, meditation, functional wellness

The college's Discover Wellness series will offer a variety of free sessions on topics including nutrition, meditation and functional wellness for faculty and staff in the coming days.

Today (Nov. 20) will feature "Lunchbox Nutrition Lessons" at noon in 227 Wilber, the conference room. This session invites faculty and staff members for a discussion meal prepping, tips and tricks, reading nutrition labels and proper portion sizes. The first 10 to register will receive a wellness incentive gift.

Class to present spoken-word readings for 'SOS: Speaking Our Silence'

Students enrolled in CRW 198 (a First-Year Signature Course called "I Have Something to Tell You: The Spoken Word") will perform their original spoken-word poetry at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21. The event will take place in the Historic Classroom (Room 222) in Sheldon Hall, and is open to the campus community. 

Each student will perform a spoken-word poem in three minutes or less. The performance will include student perspectives on contemporary American social issues like identity, addiction, relationships and perception.

Pianist Robert Auler to perform classical concert Nov. 24

International-award-winning pianist Robert Auler, professor and chair of music at SUNY Oswego, will present a Focus on Faculty concert of classical works at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, in the college’s Sheldon Hall ballroom.

Gift supports Rice Creek participation in Canal Forest Restoration Project

George and Jane Pauk recently pledged $5,000 per year for five years ($25,000 total) in support of the Canal Forest Restoration Project at SUNY Oswego's Rice Creek Field Station. This project is an initiative to restore white oak, swamp white oak, and white pine trees to areas along the New York State canal system, including Oswego.

Healthy salad bowl luncheon scheduled Dec. 12

The college's Employee Assistance Program invites the campus community to join them for a healthy salad bowl luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12 in 114 Marano Campus Center.

Participants only need to bring one salad topping to share, as EAP will provide bowls, lettuces, salad dressings, napkins and utensils.
