Small grants program

The Rice Creek Associates' Small Grants Program supports research and scholarly projects by providing funds to scholars, scientists, educators, and students. Proposals oriented toward basic and applied research in field biology, the natural sciences, social sciences, physics, atmospheric and geological sciences, arts, communication, education, wellness, and/or service projects will be considered.

Call for Proposal Guidelines

Proposal Review

All proposals will be reviewed by the Small Grant Review Committee of Rice Creek Associates. The Board of Directors of Rice Creek Associates will make the final determination of awards. The Small Grant Review Committee and/or the Board of Directors of RCA may solicit peer review. Applicants may suggest internal and external reviewers.


  • Work can focus on any subject area appropriate to the facilities and resources available at Rice Creek
  • Applicants do not have to be affiliated with SUNY Oswego or Rice Creek Field Station
  • A significant portion of the project should be done at Rice Creek Field Station
  • Special consideration will be given to projects that strengthen the RCFS mission and/or utilize the collections
  • Proposals that further inter-departmental and external partnerships are preferred


  • Most awards are between $500 and $2,000
  • Grant funds may be used for supplies, equipment, stipends, travel, publication costs, and secretarial support 
  • Additional funds may be available at the discretion of the RCA Board of Directors
  • No indirect costs will be considered
  • No more than 5% of the awarded funds should be spent outside its original proposed intent
