Collaborative effort thinks summer, seeks playlist suggestions

With spring moving forward, the Division of Extended Learning wants to get the campus thinking about summer, summer playlists and Summer Sessions.

Extended Learning is compiling a weekly themed Sounds of Summer Playlist, starting this and every Monday morning for the next five weeks. Each theme is associated with summer sessions courses. 

Write Ways Series to discuss writing from models

Dr. Michael Murphy will present "Hey, I Like That: Writing from Models" at 3 p.m. Friday, March 26, in the next installment of the Write Ways Series.

Students and writers are often told to “be original,” to “write what you know,” and especially to “write in your own voice.” But people learn much about how to write from models — pieces of writing they find compelling. This workshop will explore how to find and use rhetorical models in your writing.

SUNY human resources self-service options available

As a reminder, SUNY Oswego employees can access the Human Resources Self-Service module which allows employees to update personnel information via the SUNY HR portal (same system used for time and attendance). It is a good time of year to take a look at your information and make any necessary updates.

SUNY Oswego to host Coaches Corner series

SUNY Oswego Athletics is proud to announce the 2021 SUNY Oswego Coaches Corner, a series of virtual seminars starting Monday, March 22.

The campus community is invited to join Laker Athletics coaches at their many seminars throughout the final weeks in March. Topics will include March Madness, coaching basics, practice planning, goal setting and other topics, with seminars providing participants an inside look into many parts of the athletics experience. Seminars are open to students, faculty and staff. 

Dates set for Assistant Chief of Police candidates open forums

Four candidates for the position of Assistant Chief of Police will visit our campus remotely beginning this week through next week. View the candidates schedule online. Resumes and electronic evaluation forms will be posted online prior to each candidate's visit. A valid LakerNet ID and password are required to view this material. Any change in the schedule will be communicated via an all-campus announcement.

Zoom recordings from spring and summer 2020 to be removed

Best practice for the use of recordings for campus lectures, meetings and events suggest that they be culled on a regular basis, Campus Technology Services noted. These recordings are generally only relevant in the semester in which they are created and utilized. 

Wind down Wellness Day with succulents, essential oils or sand art

Sign-ups are open for a set of three make-and-take events that are among the many offerings for the college's second Wellness Day on Tuesday, March 23.

Positive Plants: Pot Your Own Succulent will take place from 4 to 4:20 p.m. Live on Zoom, participants will follow the step-by-step assembly of their very own succulent, and discuss the benefits of greenery in indoor spaces.

Write Ways series to explore 'Comma Usage'

Steven Smith of the Writing Center will present "Comma Usage" at 3 p.m. Friday, March 19, as part of the college's Write Ways Series.

The workshop will look at whether you are neglecting your comma use, and recommend ways to how to love, not misuse, the comma. 

For the Spring 2021 semester, all Write Ways Series workshops will run 3 to 4 p.m. as virtual events via this Zoom link.

SEFA hosts Spring Forward basket raffle

The State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) invites the campus to Spring Forward by participating in a virtual “pop up” Basket of Caring event. Take a chance and win a themed basket -- valued at more than $350 -- filled with ideas for using those extra daylight saving hours.

Chances are $1 each via the online form through 5 p.m. on Monday, March 22. Basket tickets must be paid for by 11 p.m. on March 22 to be entered.

Next Accessibility Challenge starting later this month

In January, the SUNY Oswego community came together to make the digital content the campus shares more accessible for everyone. The inaugural Accessibility Challenge brought together nearly 200 students, faculty, staff and administrators.
