QPR faculty/staff training offered support suicide prevention

April 27, 2021

QPR Gatekeeper Training -- a suicide prevention training program that equips anyone with the framework to have difficult, but possibly life-saving conversations -- will provide two virtual training opportunities for staff and faculty only.

QPR stands for "Question, Persuade, Refer," three steps anyone can learn to help prevent suicide.

These sessions will be held via Zoom.

Those interested can pick one of the following QPR Gatekeeper Training dates:

Saturday, May 8 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Mobile food pantry comes to Oswego on April 29

Food Bank of Central New York will make a visit near campus at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, in the parking lot of Oswego Alliance Church, 371 Thompson Rd. (between the main campus and Rice Creek Field Station).

Anyone in need of food assistance is encouraged to attend and receive a free box of food. Boxes will be limited to one per household and will be distributed while supplies last. There are no income requirements for families and individuals using this service.

Seeking volunteers for Commencement ceremonies

Oswego County hosting Moderna vaccination clinic in Laker Hall on Monday

The Oswego County Health Department and SUNY Oswego have joined forces to offer another COVID-19 vaccination clinic on the SUNY Oswego campus (Laker Hall) this Monday, April 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. This first-shot Moderna vaccination clinic is open to all eligible residents of the greater Oswego community (18 years or older) including SUNY Oswego employees and students.

It is always a good idea to periodically review the beneficiaries for your retirement system and make necessary updates, especially if you have had any recent changes in your life. The Office of Human Resources does not have access to view or change your beneficiaries, so you will need to do that on your own.  Choosing a beneficiary for your retirement system is very important.

Senior Week activities scheduled May 3 to 7

From Monday, May 3, to Friday, May 7, the Senior Class Planning Committee will host the official 2021 Senior Week, filled with fun games and prizes, and a cap decorating contest.

The top winners of each category will get a free diploma frame.

TIAA to offer retirement financial planning sessions

TIAA will offer sign-ups for virtual one-on-one retirement financial planning sessions with representative Darryl Fiasconaro to help employees create a plan for their goals. Times available include:

  • Friday, April 23: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Monday, April 26: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 27: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 28: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Science honor society Kappa Omicron Nu welcomes new members

The Nu Alpha Nu Chapter of Kappa Omicron Nu at SUNY Oswego was one of three colleges participating in the multichapter initiation ceremony held virtually on April 14.

Kappa Omicron Nu is the leading honor society for students in the human sciences.

Undergraduate students eligible for membership must be human development majors, have completed 45 semester hours or equivalent, and rank in the top 25 percent of their class.
