Deadline looms for absentee ballot registration

Friday, Oct. 12 is the last day to register and request absentee ballots in the 2018 midterm elections.

Today through Oct. 12, Vote Oswego is around campus in various locations so students can get registered and request absentee ballots with ease. Vote Oswego organizers noted that students do not have to worry about getting the ballots mailed because they can do that for them.

Thursday panel will explore 'Perspectives on Entrepreneurship'

The School of Business and Oswego Alumni Association will host a symposium panel discussion about entrepreneurship from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in the Sheldon Hall ballroom.

Pumpkin Run/Walk to help fight hunger locally

The SUNY Oswego Fitness Centers will host the 12th the annual Great Pumpkin 5K Run/Walk at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12.

The entry fee is $5 and all proceeds benefit the Oswego chapter of Blessings in a Backpack, a non-profit organization that provides food to area school children at risk of going hungry on the weekend.

Participants can register at the front desk of either fitness center by Thursday, Oct. 11, or register the day of the event beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the Marano Campus food court.

Public justice department to sponsor speaker – Lecia Brooks, Southern Poverty Law Center – at Oct. 9 ticketed event

The public justice department, through its David F. Cutler '74 Fund for Excellence, is sponsoring a presentation by Lecia Brooks, outreach director for the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). SPLC monitors hate groups and other extremists through the United States and exposes their activities to the public, the media, and law enforcement. 

Signups under way for children's swim lessons

SUNY Oswego's Campus Recreation will provide American Red Cross children's swim lessons on six consecutive Saturdays, Oct. 13 to Nov. 17, in the Lee Hall pool on campus.

Taught by certified instructors, the American Red Cross children's swim lessons will include sessions for students in first through sixth grades, and parent and child classes for 4- and 5-year-olds.

To celebrate National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Campus Technology Services is currently holding two contests: the Go for 2 Enrollment Drawing and the Phishing Tournament.

The Go for 2 Enrollment Drawing requires faculty, staff and students to enable 2-Step Authentication for their LakerApps email accounts to be eligible.

The deadline for nominations for the 2019 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service is fast approaching. Nominations must be received no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, 2018.

This award recognizes consistently superior professional achievement within and beyond the position. Any member of the campus community may nominate a deserving person presently serving in a full-time professional service capacity whose assignment is more than 50 percent in a professional non-teaching status including:
