Subnivean and SUNY Oswego reopen local scholarship competition for talented high school students

Subnivean, a magazine read around the globe and staffed by SUNY Oswego undergraduates, is now offering the second annual New Writers Award.

This literary competition will recognize five of Central New York’s most skilled young writers, granting one a $1,000 scholarship to attend SUNY Oswego as a creative writing or English major. It is open to high school students living in the seven-county region of Oswego County, Onondaga County, Oneida County, Herkimer County, Madison County, Cayuga County and Cortland County.

The Adult Student Assistance Program (ASAP) will spotlight graduate student opportunities and experiences in its next virtual presentation at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Next van training opportunity set for Nov. 11

The next van training class will run from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 11, to allow members of the campus community to learn how to drive the university's 12-passenger vans.

SUNY Oswego policy requires that to operate these vans, students must be 18 years of age, possess a valid U.S. driver’s license, and complete a driver training session. This includes students who are responsible for transporting persons in the vans for departmental purposes such as academic field trips, residence life and housing programs, athletic contests and community service.

'Preparing for the Many Futures of Work' discussion scheduled Nov. 14

UP, SEFA team up for No Shave November fundraiser for Blessings in a Backpack

University Police will team up with the university's State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) campaign for this year's No Shave November campaign to raise funds for Blessings in a Backpack.

This local charity supplies food to over 400 children in the Oswego School District for the entire school year. The donations the department collects will help boost their funding to supply more food to more children in the county.

Seeking students to showcase Laker pride in upcoming marketing photos

The university invites all students to be the stars of our upcoming marketing material. On Thursday, Nov. 2, photographers will capture captivating moments across the picturesque campus for promotional photos — and we would love to see Oswego students take center stage.

Flags of Nations reception slated Wednesday

A reception updating SUNY Oswego's Flags of Nations display will take place at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, in 132 Marano Campus Center (auditorium).

This ceremony recognizes the addition of flags representing the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and the countries of Chile, Uganda, Kazakhstan and Uruguay to this display.

Welcoming remarks in the auditorium will be followed by light refreshments and an opportunity to view the updated flag display.
