Each year the university recognizes the outstanding scholarly and creative activities that are conducted by SUNY Oswego faculty. The nomination window for these awards is now open.

The Scholarly and Creative Activity Committee recommends faculty members to the President and Provost who have been nominated for the following awards:

SHOP, SEFA team up for outerwear drive

The SEFA (State Employees Federated Appeal) committee and SHOP (Students Helping Oz Peers) are teaming up to collect new and gently used (clean) warm-weather clothing to support those on campus in need.

Organizers are seeking hats, gloves, coats and scarves, but no shoes or boots, please.

Donations are welcome in bins around the campus through Friday, Feb. 9, and will be distributed through SHOP shortly after that.

Penfield Library hosts Oswego High School students

Nearly 60 Oswego High School (OHS) Students visited Penfield Library on Tuesday, Jan. 9 to learn about library resources, how to conduct college-level research, and what academic support services are available to college students at SUNY Oswego.

Ticket availability for Thursday’s MLK Ceremony

Tickets are now on sale for the public and campus community for the 35th annual MLK Ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 6:30 p.m. in Tyler Hall’s Waterman Theatre. The event will feature a keynote on “From Myth To Man: A Martin Luther King Interpretation” by Ira Knight.

The event will include student readings and performances as well as additional remarks. Tickets are free, but are required for the ceremony and can be obtained at tickets.oswego.edu.

The Space re-opening; seeking suggestions for renaming

SUNY Oswego is excited to announce that Phase I renovations of The Space in Marano Campus Center have been completed and it will be available to reserve, starting on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024.

Brightspace updates for spring semester

During the semester break, several Brightspace enhancements were completed.

Brightspace home page changes

The overall page layout was updated. The My Courses widget was moved to the top portion of the page to increase visibility. A new Career Services widget was added to the bottom portion of the page and the Tutoring Resources widget was moved to this location, too.

Winterfest to take place on Jan. 27

The campus Winterfest will offer a variety of activities on Saturday, Jan. 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Marano Campus Center food and activity court.

Activities will include the always-popular build-a-buddy, a henna tattoo artist, a caricaturist, a mobile escape room, DIY reed diffusers, a mechanical reindeer, miniature photo snow globes and a hot chocolate bar.

In addition, free open skate and skate rental will be available from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

National communication honor society recognizes new members, opens spring applications

The Sigma Pi chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the national communication honor society, inducted four new members in all 2023. These members are:

- Katie Karlen, public relations, Class of 2025
- Emily Cornell, communication, Class of 2024
- Lethe White, broadcasting and mass communication, Class of 2024
- Tina Cooper, strategic communication master's degree program

Applications now open for Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship (Gilman) Program is pleased to launch the March 2024 application cycle with a deadline of Thursday, March 7. The Gilman Program enables U.S. undergraduate students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity.
