Speakers sought for Sportsmanship Day Symposium

February 1, 2019

The 11th annual Sportsmanship Day Symposium -- 2:20 to 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, in 105 Lanigan Hall -- seeks a variety of speakers to present on this topic.

Sponsored by the sociology department and the sports studies program, this event runs in conjunction with the 29th annual National Sportsmanship Day established to promote fair play, kindness and positive expressions in the world of athletics.

Children's swim lessons to begin this weekend

Campus Recreation is offering children's swim lessons starting this Saturday, Feb. 3.

The six-week program, geared toward children ages 4 to 12 years, costs $38 per child.

'BOUNCE into a Healthier You' weekly wellness class offered

"BOUNCE into a Healthier You" is a new weekly behavior change program that will start Feb. 26, geared toward improving participants' knowledge and habits related to all dimensions of wellness. BOUNCE is shorthand for behavior modification, optimizing knowledge, utilizing technology, nutrition, counting steps and eliminating strees.

Penfield Library will host its first Grand Challenges Makeathon in February, and seeks students to demonstrate -- for a chance to earn prizes -- their creativity by working collaboratively for solutions to the current "Grand Challenge: Fresh Water for All."

All classes cancelled today: main campus and Syracuse campus

Due to extreme weather conditions reported by the National Weather Service, calling for dangerously low wind chill temperatures (as low as -35 degrees) and blizzard warnings that forecast blowing and drifting lake effect snow through Thursday evening, all SUNY Oswego classes, scheduled for today, Thursday, Jan. 31, are cancelled.  This applies to classes on the SUNY Oswego main campus and at our Syracuse campus.

Call for nominations: Hubert B. Smith Diversity Scholarship

The Hubert B. Smith Diversity Scholarship will be awarded to four students for next academic year. Each recipient will receive $1,100. This award honors Hubert B. Smith, retired assistant provost and director of the Office of Learning Support (now the Office of Learning Services), for his many years of service in the promotion of human diversity and academic excellence at SUNY Oswego.

Open Forum today for fourth and final CLAS Dean candidate

The fourth and final candidate for the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS), Dr. Kristin Croyle, will be available today (Thursday, Jan. 31)  for a Faculty, Staff and Student Open Forum, to be held from 3 to 3:45 p.m., in 201 Marano Campus Center.

University Police issue body-worn cameras to patrol officers

University Police at SUNY Oswego today (Feb. 1) deployed body-worn cameras for patrol officers, mobilizing point-of-view evidence-capturing devices that law enforcement departments across the country are adopting.

SUNY Oswego's department joins the Oswego Police Department and six other State University system departments to employ cameras, worn on the center of an officer's chest, to document traffic stops and other encounters as a deterrent to potential conflicts at the point of contact or in court.
