SHOP pantry in need of toiletries

The SHOP (Students Helping Oz Peers) food and clothing pantry has officially served 350 people over 700 times this year -- and keeps working on filling a variety of needs. The pantry is reaching out to the campus community to help with its dire need for toiletries.

Community Cookout hosted by UP on menu April 28

SUNY Oswego University Police (UP) will host a free Community Cookout to connect with and thank the campus from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, in the Pathfinder Quad.

We've partnered with Alpha Phi Alpha and Delta Phi Epsilon to help make this a well-attended, student-focused event with our officers,” said UP Chief Kevin Velzy. “We’re always open to getting feedback from students and the campus community, plus this is a fun way to make connections and thank students for their efforts.”

Blackboard to Brightspace transition update

The SUNY Oswego Digital Learning Environment (DLE) transition team continues to work on the migration from Blackboard to Desire2Learn’s Brightspace learning management system. The selection of Brightspace was finalized by SUNY last fall with a system-wide implementation mandate. All SUNY Oswego courses taught or supplemented with Blackboard will be taught in Brightspace in the Fall 2022 semester.

Great Lake Review to host Spring Open Mic

The Great Lake Review student organization is collaborating with Oswego's popular River's End Bookstore, to put on a Spring Open Mic Night starting at 7 p.m, Thursday, April 21. 

Students, faculty and friends are all welcome to join and read any genre they would like, whether it's poetry, fiction, non-fiction or a play at the bookstore, corner of West First and Bridge Street in downtown Oswego. Participants can also perform if they wish, organizers said.

Queer and Trans Outreach Center to host Day of Silence this Friday

Dear Fellow Students, Faculty, Staff and Administrators,

SUNY Oswego's Queer and Trans Outreach Center (QTOC) will be hosting events for the Day of Silence on Friday, April 22. The Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network's (GLSEN) Day of Silence is a national student-led demonstration where LGBTQ+ students and allies all around the country take a vow of silence to protest the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ+ people in schools.

Pre-Vet Club hosting pet supply drive

The SUNY Oswego Pre-Veterinary Medicine Club is hosting a drive to collect supplies for the animals of the Oswego County Humane Society (OCHS).

The club invites students, staff and members of the community to donate supplies including pet food, litter, treats, toys and cleaning supplies through Thursday, April 21. Cash donations, as well as checks (made out to Oswego County Humane Society or OCHS), are also welcomed.

Freshmen, seniors should watch for technology survey email

Every spring, graduate students from different disciplines survey SUNY Oswego freshmen and seniors to learn about changing trends in students' use of technology. The Student Survey on Attitudes Toward Technology (SSATT) has tracked these technology opinions and habits since 2019.

By continuously looking into student attitudes towards technology, students in COM 524 can observe, analyze and report on any changes in survey responses.

University Police holding 'Click It or Ticket' seatbelt awareness campaign

University Police will remind members of the campus community of the importance of using seatbelts with a "Click It or Ticket" campaign between now and May 1.

The department regularly takes part in a spring traffic enforcement and awareness campaign, this year deciding to focus on the use of seatbelts for safety purposes. 

SEFA children’s book drive to support local Bookmobile

The SUNY Oswego State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) Committee once again will partner with the Oswego Bookmobile for the second annual children’s book drive.

The effort invites campus and community members to donate new and like-new books for children ages 3 to 18. The book drive will run from now through April 30.

Student Involvement Awards taking place tonight

The campus community is invited to attend the 2022 Student Involvement Awards, which will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. April 20 in the Marano Campus Center Auditorium (Room 132).

The Student Involvement Awards recognize and reward those students and their student organizations whose involvement has made SUNY Oswego and the surrounding community a better place to live and learn. Their hard work can be seen through educational programs, community service projects, athletic events, guest speakers and a variety of other ways.
