Student Success Coaches: Call for Nominations

The campus community is invited to nominate students to become first-year Success Coaches in fall 2022 via this online nomination form.

Coaches will help incoming students as they are transitioning from high school to college. They will be responsible for meeting with students in a variety of settings to help them navigate the campus, make healthy choices and build lasting relationships.

Minimum wage increase coming for student assistant employees

November 16, 2021

The Minimum Wage for student assistant employees will increase from $12.50 to $13.20 per hour, effective Dec. 23, 2021.

All student assistant employees currently paid below $13.20 will receive an automatic wage increase to the new minimum and no action is necessary. For any other hourly rate changes for Student Assistant Employees, a Student Assistant Appointment form will need to be completed and submitted to the Payroll Office. 

Evening of student spoken-word poetry planned Dec. 1

Students in CRW 198 ("The Spoken Word: I Have Something to Tell You") will perform their original spoken-word poetry on Wednesday, Dec. 1.

State Singers hosting auditions

State Singers, the college's auditioned choir, will hold auditions on Wednesday, Dec. 1, and Friday, Dec. 3, for spring semester participants.

Winter Wonderland Fashion Show in forecast for Nov. 19

Style is in the forecast when the Fashion at Oswego student organization presents its “Winter Wonderland Fashion Show” at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19,  in the Sheldon Hall ballroom.

“It’s all about spreading our passion for fashion,” the organization’s fashion events correspondent Rickey Strachan explained.

The Fashion at Oswego organization got its start as a small newsletter intended to highlight the fashion at Oswego, but has evolved to additionally enhance fashion on campus, Strachan said. 

Holiday drive seeks toys for local children

SUNY Oswego’s SEFA (State Employees Federated Appeal) and the United Way of Greater Oswego County once again looks to make spirits bright through a holiday toy drive on campus.

'Rock Your Finals' event for sophomores to include ice cream, tips, activities, more

SUNY Oswego sophomores are invited to sign up to get the scoop on how to rock their finals during a special event from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, in 133 Marano Campus Center.

Activities at "Rock Your Finals" will include free ice cream, study tips, mingling with tutors, getting information on spring events, rock painting and sending words of affirmation (via cards) to their friends (organizers will facilitate the mailing for off campus students).

Human development honor society Kappa Omicron Nu initiates new members

SUNY Oswego's department of human development welcomed five new initiates into the Nu Alpha Nu Chapter of Kappa Omicron Nu, the national honor society for human sciences.

The mission of Kappa Omicron Nu is to promote empowered leaders through excellence in scholarship, leadership and research in the human sciences.


The virtual initiation ceremony was held on Nov. 10, and welcomed these SUNY Oswego students into the chapter:

Her Campus to host Friendsgiving Banquet tonight

Before students head off campus for Thanksgiving break, the members of Her Campus will host a Friendsgiving Banquet on Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.

Her Campus will host a potluck with all different types of Thanksgiving foods. Attendees can sign up to make their own dish or bring something like a canned side or refreshment. 

Sign-ups next week for spring 2022 teaching placements

The college's Field Placement Office is preparing for the start of field experience sign-ups for the Spring 2022 semester. These in-person events will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Tuesday, Nov. 16, and Wednesday, Nov. 17, in the 208 Park Hall computer lab.

These sessions are designed to accommodate all curriculum and instruction candidates entering a Field Experience ( Block I, II, or III) in spring 2022.
