Save the date to participate in 1861 Giving Challenge

The Laker community is asked to save the date to participate in this year’s 1861 Giving Challenge to help transform the lives of SUNY Oswego students and celebrate the historic inauguration of SUNY Oswego’s 11th President, Peter O. Nwosu.

In recognition of this exciting new chapter in the university’s history, Paul Vianco ’80 has laid out a challenge to donate $70,000 to Oswego if 861 people make a gift in 1,861 minutes. The challenge clock begins at 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, and runs until 3:01 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27.

Seeking students to showcase Laker pride in upcoming marketing photos

The university invites all undergraduate and graduate students to be the stars of SUNY Oswego upcoming marketing material. On Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27, a photographer will capture captivating moments across the picturesque campus for promotional photos — and organizers would love to see Oswego students take center stage.

SUNY Oswego Latin American Film Festival to start Sept. 23

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures invites the campus to attend the 2024 SUNY Oswego-Pragda Latin American Film Festival, starting on Monday, Sept. 23.

In conjunction with the kick-off of the 2024 Hispanic Heritage Month, the festival will showcase five compelling films that explore themes of diversity, inclusion, gender issues and the vibrant world of Latin American music.

Inaugural group of local Shineman Oswego Scholars start at SUNY Oswego

The first class of 25 Shineman Oswego Scholars started this fall at SUNY Oswego, with these local students receiving support from the Richard S. Shineman Foundation.

For fall 2024, the Shineman Oswego Scholars program awarded 25 scholarships to local students for $2,500 per year for up to four years. Starting in fall 2025, the program will provide 10 $1,250 renewable scholarships across the county.

New Brightspace feature: Automatic Zero for Missing Submissions

On Aug. 21, the Automatic Zero for Missing Submissions setting was enabled. The feature allows faculty to enable it within your course. This feature automatically assigns a zero to students who have not submitted their work for a particular assignment by the designated deadline.

Upcoming student survey on AI set

Within the next week, undergraduate students will receive a survey from SUNY Oswego’s Writing Across the Curriculum Steering Committee about the student perspective on artificial intelligence as a writing tool.

Organizers hope this survey will give the campus community a better understanding of how students perceive artificial intelligence tools, as well as both whether and how they use them when they write. Each student’s feedback is valuable and will help inform future institutional policy and pedagogical tools.

Final reminder: Panopto and Zoom retention policy action to run Thursday
