SUNY Oswego infuses student feedback into new Centro routes

Through feedback and discussions with students and stakeholders, ridership data and changing habits, SUNY Oswego and Centro recently revised their campus loop schedules for fall 2022, which now include some expanded hours and amended logistics that support our students and areas needing more service.

Upcoming Advisement Guide information sessions slated

September 7, 2022

Are you interested in becoming a peer Advisement Guide and earning upper-division credit? The Advisement Center is holding information sessions to learn about the Advisement Guide Program and to hear about the experience from a current guide.

Sessions will be held on the following days/times in the Advisement Center, 151 Marano Campus Center:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 13, 11 a.m.
  • Friday, Sept. 16, 1 p.m.

Retirement reception announced for UP Chief Kevin Velzy

The campus is invited to celebrate the career and retirement of University Police Chief Kevin Velzy during a reception on Friday, Sept. 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. in 114 Marano Campus Center.
 
Chief Velzy began his career as a university police patrol officer in 1989 and later served as a lieutenant, administrative lieutenant and assistant chief before assuming the role of chief in 2020.

Panel to discuss refugee population in Central New York

A panel discussion at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, will explore "Welcoming New Americans: Refugees in Central New York," featuring SUNY Oswego faculty as well as staff from Interfaith Works of CNY, a refugee resettlement agency in Syracuse.

Brightspace transition update

The Digital Learning Environment (DLE) transition team congratulates all the faculty and students who have made the transition from Blackboard to Brightspace. Approximately 1,200 course sections are currently active in Brightspace, which is a testament to faculty who have learned and continue to learn Brightspace, migrated and prepared their fall classes in it and to students who are learning it. 

Triandiflou Institute to host open house on Sept. 7

The James A. Triandiflou Institute for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Transformative Practice will host an open house from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, in their offices on the second floor of Penfield Library.

The entire campus community is invited to enjoy prizes, snacks, beverages and good vibes.

Discover Wellness employee opportunity returns

August 31, 2022

"Discover Wellness: Find A Healthier You" will once again offer its weekly, virtual, seven-week program this fall.

The program will begin on Sept. 19, 2022, and is free to all SUNY Oswego employees. This program focuses on stress reduction, healthy eating, increasing physical activity,and improving overall quality of sleep.

Participants will receive free weekly wellness reinforcements and wellness coaching that will assist them in making a behavior change that will aid in increasing their overall quality of life.

IberoAmerican Film Fest to begin next week

August 31, 2022

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures will present the IberoAmerican Film Fest, with showings on five consecutive Wednesdays.

Every Wednesday at 7 p.m., from Sept. 7 to Oct. 5, films from Brazil, Colombia, Spain and the United States will be screened in the Marano Campus Center auditorium (Room 132).

Off-campus students and commuters invited for conversations with Dean of Students staff

The Dean of Students Office invites off-campus students and commuters to come and share their experiences with the office's staff. 

Two sessions are both in Room 133 of Marano Campus Center (across from the auditorium):

  • Wednesday, Sept. 7, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, Sept. 8, 11:30 to 12:30 p.m.

The first five students for each session will receive a coupon for a reduced price drink on campus.

Deadlines ahead for Shineman Endowment Fund grants
